Andrea Doan to Serve As Chair of Advisory Panel on Pro Hockey in Arizona
Phoenix, AZ— Maricopa County Chairman Thomas Galvin announced today that Andrea Doan, longtime Arizona resident and NHL advocate, has been named Chair of the Advisory Panel on Pro Hockey to Arizona, an informal group of Arizona leaders focused on bringing the NHL back to the desert. In January, Galvin announced that he had preliminary conversations with the NHL commissioner and other interested parties about bringing an NHL expansion team back to Arizona.
A Valley resident since 1997, Andrea Doan has been deeply involved in both the NHL and youth hockey communities in Arizona for over 20 years. She holds a degree from Arizona State University with a concentration in Public Life, Culture, and Religion and is pursuing graduate studies in social transformation with a focus on community leadership and service. Andrea is certified as a Pain Coach in Pain Reprocessing Therapy and, together with her husband Shane, received the Pat Tillman Service Award for their dedication to service and community engagement. Andrea and Shane are the proud parents of four adult children.
"Arizona means a lot to me and my family, and the hockey community in this incredible state is committed to bringing the NHL back to the desert,” said Andrea Doan. “I am honored to serve as the chair of this ad hoc committee and look forward to working with my colleagues and fellow community leaders in Arizona on this important effort."
The Advisory council is comprised of community, business and sports leaders who recognize the importance of a thriving sports community in the state. Advisory board members will be announced in the coming weeks.
“I am honored to have Andrea Doan join me in this effort to bring the NHL back to Arizona,” said Thomas Galvin. “Andrea has dedicated much of her personal life to our community and building support for Arizona hockey. Her knowledge of the industry and connections to Arizona and the NHL are instrumental to our mission. As the fifth largest metropolitan area in the nation, we are well positioned with the fanbase, infrastructure, and local support to get the NHL back.”
Lyndsey Fry, Arizona native, member of the 2024 Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey team, and leader in developing women’s and youth hockey programs, applauded the efforts by Doan and Galvin. As co-founder of the Matt Shott Arizona Hockey Legacy Foundation, Fry will be responsible for developing and championing community outreach, a key element in the plan to bring the NHL back to Arizona.
“Since I was 5 years old, hockey has played a pivotal role in my life,” said Lyndsey Fry. “From youth hockey leagues in Arizona to representing the U.S.A. in the Olympics to developing aspiring athletes, I have seen firsthand how this sport brings our community together. Everything good I've ever had in my life has come from this game. Professional sports such as the NHL are a key community ally in the development of youth and amateur sports in the state. I stand ready to work with Andrea Doan, Tom Galvin, and our large community of hockey supporters to get the NHL back to this incredible state.”
